Study Abroad
Students considering studying abroad should visit the Global Learning Office website for more information. Deadlines for study abroad applications are strictly enforced; therefore, students are advised to complete their applications well in advance.
Before going abroad, we suggest you reach out to the Business Institutions Academic Adviser to approve your plans and ensure that you will be able to successfully complete the Business Institutions minor. You will be asked to share the course(s) you hope to apply towards the Business Institutions minor. You will need to provide the school’s name, course title, course description, and a website link to the course for review. Courses are reviewed by the Kapnick Center, and students typically receive a response within 1-3 business days, advising if the selected course(s) are approved for credit towards the Business Institutions minor.
Upon returning from abroad, you must fill out the Petition for Credit from Study Abroad form and email it to Patty FitzGibbons (fitzgibbons@northwestern.edu) along with a copy of your official transcript from the university abroad.
The Business Institutions minor will accept up to two study abroad credits towards the minor. To fulfill the requirements for the minor, students must successfully complete courses with a grade of C- or above.
Please note the following general policy for the Business Institutions minor: A maximum of one course that is either a non-Northwestern course, study abroad or a course offered by Northwestern’s School of Professional Studies (SPS) may count as one of the four Business Tools courses required for the minor (BUS_INST 301, 302, 303 or 304).
